Introduction to E-Commerce

This course will provide an introduction to the technology and history of the Internet and its uses as an electronic commerce medium from informational websites to full online retail systems. Included in this introductory survey will be analysis and evaluation of retail and business to business Internet based systems. The course will be offered online and also in one credit hour modules.

ECOM 100B History and technology of the Internet for commerce. This will present a basic introduction to the history and development of TCP/IP internetworking, the Hyper Text Transfer Protocol of the Web and secure transactional services. 1 Credit Hour

ECOM 100C Ecommerce and Ebusinesss Services
. This will survey the uses of the Internet by business with analyses of sites designed to provide those services. These services will include an overview of marketing and informational services, e-commerce virtual store fronts, online retail banking and commercial banking, Business to Business services such as inventory supply, online invoicing and bill presentment along with basic intranet and extranet descriptions. 1 Credit Hour

ECOM 100D Introduction to Internet  Sales & Marketing
. Introduces students to the current concepts of Internet marketing and how this differs from traditional sales and marketing assumptions and techniques. Specific topics will be combined with links to sites and studies on this rapidly evolving area. Topics will include methods for bringing customers to your site, cross media promotion, developing the customer community, to portal or not to portal and the basic techniques of database marketing and personalization of the site. 1 Credit Hour


Grading and Course Structure

Each module functions as a separate course and will be available for five weeks during the standard semester. Availability dates are listed in the schedule of classes.

Grading: Grades will be based on points obtained in exams, course projects and weekly assignment/discussion activities.  A total of 300 points are possible for an individual module.

Exams: Each module has one exam worth a maximum of 100 points and functions as the final exam for the course. 

Projects: Each module will have one project available in the Project Workshop at the start of the module. This project will be due the last week of the module and will be worth up to 100 points.

Discussions, Exercises & Assignments:  There will be Office Chat scheduled each week. Attendance is strongly recommended for this informal discussion activity. There will be Exercises or more formal Assignments each week posted at the end of each Lesson in the Tutorial Site. These activities must be completed and will be worth up to 100 points total for the module grade.

You can register for a one semester hour one credit hour course or for all three to equal a regular three credit hour one semester course.

All LCC ECOM courses are regular college credit courses and are hosted on UH Mano'a Webct servers.
